THE INAUGURAL NATIONAL ROUND OF THE BROWN MOSTEN INTERNATIONAL CLIENT CONSULTATION COMPETITION WAS HELD IN THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA

On February 24-25, 2024, the inaugural national round of the Brown Mosten International Client Consultation Competition was held in Yerevan, Armenia on the initiative of the USAID/Armenia Justice Sector Support Project.

Nare Nikoghosyan and Lusine Vardanyan from French University in Armenia emerged victorious and will represent Armenia in the upcoming international round of this famous Competition to be held in Lublin, Poland on April 10-13, 2024.

The President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Arman Dilanyan, Ms. Rebecca White, USAID/Armenia's Deputy Mission Director, and Mr. Simon Babayan, Chairman of the Chamber of Advocates of the Republic of Armenia participated in the Awards Ceremony to congratulate the winners.

In his speech, the President of the RA Constitutional Court, Mr. Arman Dilanyan, first thanked the USAID JSSP team, on whose initiative this competition was organized for the first time in Armenia, and noted: “This is truly a valuable and targeted event. It enriches Armenia’s educational culture with a competition such as this one, focusing on developing practical skills. It was a great idea to bring a competition focusing on client consultation to Armenia.  For the participants, this has been a historic moment, they’re the pioneers, and, judging by the difficult situation in which they have put the jury, I think they’ve managed to do it well. For their theoretical knowledge, this was a serious test to demonstrate in practice. Good luck to all of you!”

Welcoming the participants and congratulating all the students, Ms. Rebecca White, USAID/Armenia’s Deputy Mission Director, said: “You've all already succeeded because you're here. So, all of us that have chosen the legal professions, stand between the public and charity․ I am incredibly delighted to see that all the finalists are women. Congratulations to all of you and to those of you who go on to Poland.”

Students were judged by a panel comprised of lawyers and psychologists on their ability to conduct an effective interview with a client. Four teams from French University in Armenia and Eurasia International University participated in Armenia's inaugural national round.

The Brown Mosten Client Consultation Competition aims to engage law students in experiential learning and improve their interviewing skills, helping them to develop an effective lawyer-client relationship. Ultimately, students are equipped with practical skills that prepare them to enter the workforce.
Brown Mosten International Client Counseling Competition was first established by Professor Louis M Brown in the United States in 1969.  The American Bar Association adopted the competition in 1972, and it became international in 1985.  The international competition was named after Louis M Brown in 1993 in recognition of the inspiration he provided as its originator.
