PRESS RELEASE
The International High-level Conference titled “Respect for the Decisions of Constitutional Courts” was held in Yerevan on November 14-15, 2024. The event was co-organized by the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia, the Venice Commission and the Council of Europe Project “Support to the Development of Constitutional Justice in Armenia in line with European Standards”.
Welcoming the participants of the Conference, Arman Dilanyan, the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia, stressed the importance of respect for the decisions of constitutional courts in the establishment of a democratic society.
Martin Kuijer, Vice President of the Venice Commission, Judge of the Supreme Court of the Netherlands, and Simona Granata-Menghini, Director, Secretary of the Venice Commission also delivered welcoming remarks.
The Conference included the following four main panel discussions:
1. Decisions of the Constitutional Courts as Bridges between National and International Human Rights Legal Orders
2. Ways of Implementation of the Decisions of Constitutional Courts
3. Constitutional Review and the Rule of Law
4. Perception and Criticism of constitutional court decisions by the media and social media

The Conference aimed to to study and analyse international best practices, develop effective trans-judicial dialogue, and find effective solutions to ensure the respect and implementation of constitutional court decisions. The Conference concluded with the Closing Session.
The delegates and guests of the International Conference visited the Matenadaran, Mesrop Mashtots Research Institute of Ancient Manuscripts and got acquainted with the Armenian medieval bibliography and the collections of foreign language manuscripts. A group of delegates visited the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and got acquainted with the sacred relics and unique examples of religious art kept in the Mother Cathedral Museum. Another group of delegates visited the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex and paid tribute to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
