THE DELEGATION OF THE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT PAID A STUDY VISIT TO STRASBOURG
On April 28-30, 2025, the delegation of the Constitutional Court paid a study visit to Strasbourg. The visit of the representatives of the Constitutional Court staff incorporated 12 dynamic sessions at the Council of Europe (CoE) and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
The delegation of the RA Constitutional Court held meetings with the representatives of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission), the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO), the Department for the Execution of Judgments of the ECHR, and the Press service of the ECHR.
During the meetings, the parties addressed issues such as the role of Constitutional Courts in the system of checks and balances, the general working methods of the Venice Commission, the mandate, functions and priorities of the Commissioner, the mechanisms of cooperation of the Office of the Commissioner with Constitutional Courts, the objectives and general working methods of the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) and its cooperation with national courts, the procedure for the execution of ECHR judgments and control mechanisms, as well as possible cooperation options. The representatives of the Constitutional Court staff were hosted by Judge Mykola Gnatovskyy of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
During the meetings with the representatives of the Council of Europe and the ECHR, issues related to the role of Constitutional Courts in the interpretation of international humanitarian law and human rights, the interaction of international humanitarian law and human rights, recent developments in ECHR case law, as well as the communication of courts with the media were also touched upon.
The study visit was organised within the framework of the Project “Support for the Development of Constitutional Justice in Armenia in Line with European Standards”, with the support of the OSCE Office in Yerevan.
