ON THE 4TH CONGRESS OF THE ASIAN ASSOCIATION OF CONSTITUTIONAL COURTS AND EQUIVALENT INSTITUTIONS
On 27 August 2020, the 4th Congress of the Asian Association of Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions, chaired by the Constitutional Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan, was held in the form of videoconference. Ashot Khachatryan, The ad interim President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia participated in the work of the Congress. The Congress, entitled “Constitution of the 21st century: rule of law, the human being as the highest value, and the efficiency of the state”, was attended by the delegations of constitutional justice bodies from more than 30 countries of Asia and Europe.
In their speeches in respect to the agenda items, the participants of the Congress emphasized the role of the Constitutional Courts in the spheres of protection and promotion of human rights, the rule of law and democratic governance in times of the COVID-19 pandemic. While congratulating the colleagues from the Constitutional Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution – in his report A. Khachatryan particularly touched upon the matters related to the impact of the pandemic crisis on the constitutional doctrine of human rights.
H.E. Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, addressed the participants of the Congress with a special video welcoming speech.
